“Nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you care” – Theodore Roosevelt as quoted by the Chief Executive Officer of Lithon Foundation, Marsia Reed.
Lithon is an engineering company that was established in 2002 with the Christianity-inspired purpose of delicately balancing hard and soft skills. It does this through combining the engineering ability to physically change communities with its passion to restore people and communities to their full potential. In order to further its social impact agenda, Lithon established the Lithon Foundation in 2014.
“It is the Foundation’s vison to ‘bring God’s love and hope to people and communities’ by staying true to its motto to ‘Love. Give. Guide’.” – said Adriaan Grobler (Chief Executive and Founder).
Lithon Foundation has a significant impact in Namibia through supporting individuals and organizations that drive social change. This support can be offered through capacity building, mentorship and financial assistance. The Foundation thus offers varied sponsorships to likeminded social projects such as the Dagbreek School for the Intellectually Impaired and the African Leadership Institute.
The Foundation further supports the social entrepreneurial system of Namibia through providing professional networking opportunities to drivers of social change. A common networking opportunity for aspiring or active social changemakers is the “Lithon Friday Morning Breakfast Meetings”. Here the Foundation invites stakeholders in the social entrepreneurship ecosystem to attend and speak about their initiatives under the categories of love, give and guide.
This is an incredibly impactful networking model as those with social impact ideas, social businesses and social connectors in the ecosystem get an opportunity to learn about each other. Lithon Foundation has identified this lack of networking as its niche within the chain as it has seen the transformational and inspirational impact of this initiative in combating the lack of awareness and isolation in Namibian social entrepreneurship ecosystem.
